QUNIE CORPORATION

Tokyo, Japan - November 30, 2022 – A Japanese consultancy firm, QUNIE CORPORATION (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Ken Tsuchihashi; company referred to as QUNIE) has released a report in Japanese on courier delivery capacity on November 30, 2022. This report is based on QUNIE's own estimates of the driver shortage amid the increase in the number of parcel delivery services, aiming to get a picture of the situation and the root cause of shortages expected in the near future in order to develop specific countermeasures. In addition to the number of deliveries and drivers, QUNIE has focused on trucks to forecast delivery capacity through 2030.

As a result, the transportation capacity by trucks is expected to face a shortage of approximately 58,000 drivers by 2030 and a vehicle shortage from 2027 onward to meet the demand for home delivery. (*1)

This report also provides recommendations for alternative measures to tackle "truck capacity shortage" from four perspectives: "environmental issues," "road conditions," "increase in small packages," and "decreasing growth in the number of truck drivers."

(*1) "Projected supply" is calculated based on the past five years' actual results given that efforts are made such as to reduce the number of redeliveries associated with the last-mile problem and that the redelivery rate for home delivery can be maintained as of 2022 at a minimum level.
