First in Japan to formulate CO2 Emissions Calculation rules for software products
- Promoting decarbonization in the software industry to reduce emissions throughout the supply chain

Tokyo, Japan - March 29, 2024 - As part of its efforts to decarbonize the software sector, the Japanese consultancy firm, QUNIE CORPORATION (NTT DATA Group; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shigeki Yamaguchi), has developed calculation rules that can reflect the efforts of developers to reduce CO2 emissions of contract software products, in collaboration with NTT Corporation (NTT), NTT DATA Group Corporation, NTT Advanced Technology Corporation, NTT TechnoCross Corporation, NTT COMWARE CORPORATION, Hitachi, Ltd., NEC Corporation, and Fujitsu Limited. This calculation rule will enable calculation and comparison of the CO2 emissions of contract development software products under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s "Carbon Footprint Guidelines."
The formulated rules will be posted on the LCA Japan Forum (Secretariat: Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry).
We will continue to develop these rules and contribute to achieving the carbon neutrality in the supply chain.
